Why Your Headset Sounds Different on PC vs Console

Why Your Headset Sounds Different on PC vs Console

From the official release

You plug the same headset into your PC and your Xbox or PS5, and it sounds completely different. Maybe you get more bass on one platform, clearer vocals on another, or just an overall shift in tone you cannot quite pin down. You are not imagining things, and no, your headset is not broken.

The culprit is not the headset itself. Your drivers (the speakers inside the ear cups) stay the same no matter what you plug into. What changes is everything between the game's audio output and those drivers, and each platform handles that chain differently. Your PC, your Xbox controller, and your PS5 DualSense all use different DACs, amplifiers, and audio processing software, so the same headset receives a slightly different signal on each device.
